This 10-day Helambu Trek combines the thrill of scenic mountain trekking with a deep cultural experience in the heart of the Himalayas. Your journey begins in Kathmandu with visits to the sacred Swayambhunath (Monkey Temple) and the historic Kathmandu Durbar Square, setting the tone for your adventure ahead.

After preparing your trekking gear, you'll drive to Sundarijal, the gateway to the Helambu region. From the starting elevation of 1,350 meters, your trek ascends through lush forests and terraced farmlands, passing through traditional Hyolmo and Tamang villages along ancient trade routes.

A highlight is exploring the cultural richness of Tarkeghyang and Sermathang villages, perched at comfortable altitudes, where you'll discover local Buddhist monasteries and experience authentic Hyolmo traditions. These cultural stops help you connect with the region's heritage while enjoying moderate trekking through rhododendron forests, alpine meadows, and charming mountain settlements. The trek offers stunning views of Langtang Lirung, Ganesh Himal, and the surrounding peaks as you complete the circuit back to Melamchi Pul. What Else Do You Need to Know?

  • No drying rooms are available during the trek, but most tea houses offer covered verandas or common areas where you can hang wet gear to dry.

  • Dietary needs? We can cater to most food allergies and special diets with advance notice. Please inform us at the time of booking so we can plan accordingly.

  • Standard accommodation is on a twin-share basis in tea houses. A single (private) room may be available for the entire trek, subject to availability at altitude.

  • Power outlets are available at most tea houses for charging devices, but availability may vary, especially at higher elevations.

  • Drones require a permit from the relevant authorities in Nepal before flying. Please coordinate with our team in advance to ensure compliance with local regulations and to respect nearby communities and wildlife.

  • You may bring your own alcohol, but we kindly ask you to drink responsibly, especially at altitude.

  • Non-trekkers are welcome to join the trip up to certain points. If you’re accompanying a trekker but not walking the full route, we can arrange suitable alternatives for him/her.

Upon arrival, complete your visa process and clear Immigration and Customs. Proceed to the arrival hall, where our representative will be waiting to welcome you and transfer you to your hotel in the heart of Kathmandu.

After checking in and taking a moment to rest and refresh, you can explore some of Kathmandu’s key sights at a relaxed pace or simply immerse yourself in the city’s vibrant atmosphere. Later, return to your hotel and enjoy the remainder of the day at your leisure - either unwinding or taking a casual walk around the local area.

Today, explore Swayambhunath, the ancient “Monkey Temple” perched atop a hill, offering spiritual vibes and sweeping views of Kathmandu Valley. Then, visit Kathmandu Durbar Square, a UNESCO site rich in history, traditional architecture, and royal heritage.

Discover Hanuman Dhoka Palace, Kumari Ghar (home of the living goddess), and beautiful pagoda temples. Use this day to prepare for your trek — shop for any missing gear in Thamel, pack layers, bring waterproof clothes, energy-rich snacks, plenty of water, and a first aid kit to stay safe and comfortable on the trail.

Early in the morning, depart Kathmandu for a scenic 45-minute appx. drive to Sundarijal, the gateway to the Helambu region. The drive covers about 16 kilometers through terraced hills and traditional villages to reach the trailhead at 1,350 meters.

Upon arrival, enjoy tea and snacks before starting your trek to Chisapani at 2,165 meters. The trail initially ascends through the Shivapuri Nagarjun National Park, winding through dense rhododendron forests, cascading waterfalls, and lush vegetation along ancient trading routes, offering beautiful mountain views and a refreshing introduction to the Helambu trekking experience.

The route passes through traditional Nepalese villages, terraced hillsides, and subtropical forests, offering final glimpses of rural mountain life before returning to the bustling capital. You'll cross several bridges over rushing rivers and enjoy views of distant peaks as you descend towards the Kathmandu valley. Upon arrival, you'll be transferred to your hotel, marking the successful completion of your Helambu trek adventure.
