Overview of Poonhill Trek

This 10-day journey through Nepal offers a perfect blend of cultural discovery and Himalayan adventure. Begin in Kathmandu with visits to UNESCO World Heritage sites like Kathmandu Durbar Square and Swayambhunath Stupa, immersing yourself in Nepal’s rich spiritual and architectural heritage. Then, travel to Pokhara, the gateway to the Annapurna region, where you’ll start your trek from Nayapul at 1,070 meters, winding through lush forests and traditional villages.

As you ascend to Ghorepani (2,840m) and then to Poonhill (3,210m), be rewarded with breathtaking panoramic views of the Annapurna and Dhaulagiri ranges, including iconic peaks like Machhapuchhre and Nilgiri, especially stunning at sunrise. The trek continues through Tadapani and the charming Gurung village of Ghandruk (2,012m), rich in culture and scenic beauty, before descending back to Nayapul and returning to Pokhara to relax.

Conclude your adventure with a scenic drive back to Kathmandu, where you can explore the vibrant streets of Thamel before departure. What Else Do You Need to Know?

  • No drying rooms are available during the trek, but most tea houses offer covered verandas or common areas where you can hang wet gear to dry.

  • Dietary needs? We can cater to most food allergies and special diets with advance notice. Please inform us at the time of booking so we can plan accordingly.

  • Standard accommodation is on a twin-share basis in tea houses. A single (private) room may be available for the entire trek, subject to availability at altitude.

  • Power outlets are available at most tea houses for charging devices, but availability may vary, especially at higher elevations.

  • Drones require a permit from the relevant authorities in Nepal before flying. Please coordinate with our team in advance to ensure compliance with local regulations and to respect nearby communities and wildlife.

  • You may bring your own alcohol, but we kindly ask you to drink responsibly, especially at altitude.

  • Non-trekkers are welcome to join the trip up to certain points. If you’re accompanying a trekker but not walking the full route, we can arrange suitable alternatives for him/her.

Upon arrival, complete your visa process and clear Immigration and Customs. Proceed to the arrival hall, where our representative will be waiting to welcome you and transfer you to your hotel in the heart of Kathmandu.

After checking in and taking a moment to rest and refresh, you can explore some of Kathmandu’s key sights at a relaxed pace or simply immerse yourself in the city’s vibrant atmosphere. Later, return to your hotel and enjoy the remainder of the day at your leisure - either unwinding or taking a casual walk around the local area.

Today, explore Swayambhunath, the ancient “Monkey Temple” perched atop a hill, offering spiritual vibes and sweeping views of Kathmandu Valley. Then, visit Kathmandu Durbar Square, a UNESCO site rich in history, traditional architecture, and royal heritage.

Discover Hanuman Dhoka Palace, Kumari Ghar (home of the living goddess), and beautiful pagoda temples. Use this day to prepare for your trek — shop for any missing gear in Thamel, pack layers, bring waterproof clothes, energy-rich snacks, plenty of water, and a first aid kit to stay safe and comfortable on the trail.

The trail passes through charming Gurung and Magar settlements, where traditional homes and local hospitality offer insight into rural Himalayan life. Once you reach Ghorepani, you’ll be welcomed by stunning views of the Annapurna and Dhaulagiri ranges — setting the perfect stage for tomorrow’s sunrise adventure to Poon Hill.

Finally, the wait is over. Today, you will reach your destination, Poonhill, which is one of the most iconic viewpoints in the Annapurna region. Today's trek is more challenging than yesterday's due to the significant gain in altitude, reaching up to 3210m at poonhill.

 Once you reach poonhill, you will forget all the exhaustion, sore muscles, and challenges of the trek.

Enjoy breathtaking views of majestic mountains Annapurna and Dhaulagiri mountain ranges, including famous peaks like Annapurna I, Dhaulagiri, Machhapuchhre (Fishtail), and Nilgiri, especially magical at sunrise. After a marvelous sunrise view, you will head back to Ghorepani for breakfast and afterwards start trekking to Tadapani.

Today marks the end of your trekking adventure. After breakfast, you’ll leave the quiet charm of Ghandruk and begin a scenic 4–5 hour descent to Nayapul. The trail passes through terraced fields, forests, and small villages, giving you one last taste of the Annapurna region’s beauty and local culture.

Once at Nayapul, a private vehicle will drive you back to Pokhara. Settle into the comfort of your hotel and enjoy a relaxing evening—whether it's a quiet lakeside walk, a hearty meal, or simply resting your feet after the rewarding days on the trail.

Early in the morning, if you want, you can do a 1-hour boat trip on Phewa Lake. The boat trip provides an opportunity to enjoy the tranquility of the water, taking in stunning vistas. After that, get back to Kathmandu, the capital city.

Upon arrival in Kathmandu, take a rest and relax. Later in the evening, you can explore Thamel for shopping and soaking in its vibrant atmosphere. It's the perfect place to unwind, grab a delicious meal, and experience the lively urban spirit of Kathmandu after your peaceful trek.
