Overview of ACT Trek

The Annapurna Circuit Trek offers a captivating journey through Nepal’s varied landscapes and rich cultural heritage. Starting from Kathmandu, you’ll first prepare with a walking tour of iconic sites like Swyambhunath and Durbar Square. Then, drive to Manang district, beginning your trek at Chame (2,670 m). The trail leads through beautiful villages such as Pisang (3,200 m), where you’ll experience the warm hospitality and unique culture of the Gurung and Tibetan communities.

After an acclimatization day in Manang (3,500 m), you continue trekking through alpine landscapes to Yak Kharka (4,110 m) and Thorong Phedi (4,540 m), the base camp for the highest point of the trek. The next day, you cross the Thorong La Pass at 5,416 m, rewarded with breathtaking panoramic views of snow-capped peaks. After descending to the sacred town of Muktinath (3,800 m), you conclude your trekking journey and drive to the tranquil city of Pokhara (820 m) to relax and explore. Finally, you return to Kathmandu for departure.

What Else Do You Need to Know?

  • No drying rooms are available during the trek, but most tea houses offer covered verandas or common areas where you can hang wet gear to dry.

  • Dietary needs? We can cater to most food allergies and special diets with advance notice. Please inform us at the time of booking so we can plan accordingly.

  • Standard accommodation is on a twin-share basis in tea houses. A single (private) room may be available for the entire trek, subject to availability at altitude.

  • Power outlets are available at most tea houses for charging devices, but availability may vary, especially at higher elevations.

  • Drones require a permit from the relevant authorities in Nepal before flying. Please coordinate with our team in advance to ensure compliance with local regulations and to respect nearby communities and wildlife.

  • You may bring your own alcohol, but we kindly ask you to drink responsibly, especially at altitude.

  • Non-trekkers may join the journey up to Chame or Muktinath. For alternative arrangements or trip customization, please click here.

Upon arrival, complete your visa process and clear Immigration and Customs. Proceed to the arrival hall, where our representative will be waiting to welcome you and transfer you to your hotel in the heart of Kathmandu.

After checking in and taking a moment to rest and refresh, you can explore some of Kathmandu’s key sights at a relaxed pace or simply immerse yourself in the city’s vibrant atmosphere. Later, return to your hotel and enjoy the remainder of the day at your leisure - either unwinding or taking a casual walk around the local area.

Today, explore Swayambhunath, the ancient “Monkey Temple” perched atop a hill, offering spiritual vibes and sweeping views of Kathmandu Valley. Then, visit Kathmandu Durbar Square, a UNESCO site rich in history, traditional architecture, and royal heritage.

Discover Hanuman Dhoka Palace, Kumari Ghar (home of the living goddess), and beautiful pagoda temples. Use this day to prepare for your trek — shop for any missing gear in Thamel, pack layers, bring waterproof clothes, energy-rich snacks, plenty of water, and a first aid kit to stay safe and comfortable on the trail.

Today begins your trekking adventure on the Annapurna Circuit. After an early breakfast, start your 5-6 hour trek from Chame to Pisang, following the Marshyangdi River. The trail passes through pine forests, rocky terrain, and scenic villages. Along the way, enjoy views of Pisang Peak, soaring at 6,091 meters. Pisang village, at 3,200 meters, is divided into Upper and Lower sections. Upper Pisang features traditional architecture and offers stunning views of Annapurna II, making it a great place to explore and rest.

These movements play a critical role in the acclimatization process, helping the body adjust to the higher altitude while keeping muscles warm and spirits engaged. You can hike to Praken Gompa, a monastery located at about 3,900 meters, which offers panoramic views of the Annapurna range. Another option is a hike to Gangapurna Lake or a walk to the nearby Manang Village, which provides insights into local culture and lifestyle. Also, Manang itself is a charming village, bustling with plenty of visitors to explore.

After your acclimatization day in Manang, your trekking adventure continues to Yak Kharkha.  which sits at an altitude of approximately 4050 meters above sea level. The trek from Manang to Yak Kharka covers 10 kilometers and typically takes 4-5 hours to complete.

Along the way, you will pass through small settlements like Gunsang, where you can stop and take a rest, hydrate, and enjoy the surrounding scenery. Yak kharkha is a beautiful journey that offers you a wonderful opportunity to experience the majestic landscapes of the Annapurna region while gradually preparing your body for the challenges of high-altitude trekking.

Phewa Lake, one of the major attractions in Pokhara, provides a perfect setting for leisurely walks or boating. If you feel dizzy after the trek, visit the spa centers which offer traditional Nepali massages, yoga sessions, and meditation classes to help you relax and recover.
